San Francisco city supervisors voted unanimously to ban chewing tobacco and other smokeless tobacco from playing fields Tuesday. The city will become the first in the country to introduce such a ban. According to legislation sponsor Mark Farrell, the issue came up through concerns over children seeing players chew the product during baseball games. The law is pushed by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and a blanket ban on the product already exists in the minor leagues.
