Sister Helen Prejean, the well-known death-penalty opponent, says she believes Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is “genuinely sorry” for his actions, even though he’s never publicly apologized for them. “No one deserves to suffer like they [the bombing victims] did,” he allegedly told her in recent days. Prejean revealed the statement Monday during testimony at a hearing in Boston, where a jury will sentence Tsarnaev for his conviction on 30 counts stemming from the April 2013 bombings, which left three dead and some 260 injured. Tsarnaev is facing the death penalty. “His face registered it. He kind of lowered his eyes,” she testified. “[His voice] had pain it in. I had every reason to think that he was taking it in and he was genuinely sorry for what he did."
