A report written by deceased Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov estimates that the conflict with Ukraine has cost Russia more than $55 billion. According to the report, the annexation of Crimea was the most costly endeavor, ringing in at a total of $53 billion. Support for the Ukraine war has cost Putin $1 billion, and taking care of refugees from war-torn regions an additional $1.5 billion.
