Domestic-violence charges against former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice were dropped Thursday, after he completed a pretrial intervention program. Under the terms of the program, Rice had to complete a certain set of requirements to avoid prosecution. ESPN's Outside the Lines reported that such an outcome in a case like Rice’s is very rare: In fact, only about 1 percent of domestic-violence cases involving assault were granted such an option, which is usually reserved for victimless crimes. A video caught Rice knocking his then-fiancée unconscious in an Atlantic City casino in 2014.
