Four tourists have been sentenced to three days’ time served and a $1,300 fine after pleading guilty to taking nude photos atop Mount Kinabalu, a mountain that’s considered sacred in Malaysia. Briton Eleanor Hawkins, two Australians, and a Dutch tourist were arrested along with six others this week after a mass outcry claiming their nude pictures caused a 5.9-magnitude earthquake in the area. The group’s lawyer said “their act had brought shame and ridicule upon themselves and their respective countries,” and that international media scrutiny was punishment enough.
