Bahrain officials said opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman was sentenced to four years in jail by the high criminal court on Tuesday for inciting unrest. Salman, who heads the al Wefaq Islamic Society, is the most senior figure in the Shiite opposition to be jailed since anti-government protests broke out in 2011. The Sunni Muslim-ruled kingdom convicted Salman of "explicit incitement against a group of the people, including disturbing the public peace and explicit incitement toward disobeying the law," according to the prosecutor.
