The uncle of the 21-year-old accused of killing nine people at a historic black church in Charleston said his nephew was not raised to be a racist, The Washington Post reported Thursday. Carson Cowles said South Carolina native Dylann Roof’s mother “never raised him to be like this.” Cowles described Roof as a quiet young man, but added, “I’d be the executioner myself if they would allow it.” Roof’s sister Amber reportedly alerted authorities after seeing the surveillance photo of her brother on television, according to law-enforcement officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Amber Roof was due to be married Sunday, according to wedding website theknot.com. Roof was arrested in Shelby, North Carolina, just three miles from where his sister’s fiancé lived.
