A wildfire has burned an estimated 3,000 acres in central Washington and destroyed at least 23 homes and three commercial buildings as the state struggles with a severe drought, officials said Monday. A few firefighters have suffered minor injures since the “Sleepy Hollow” fire first broke out Sunday, forcing hundreds of residents to flee in and around Wenatchee. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but follows lightning strikes in the area, said Janet Pearce, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Natural Resources. Washington has endured more than 300 wildfires so far this year while the eastern part of the state has been experiencing temperatures well into the 100s.
