Movie studio 20th Century Fox is planning to develop a film about the landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage in the U.S. The studio confirmed Tuesday it had acquired the life story rights of Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit, as well as the life rights of his lawyer, Al Gerhardstein. Fox has also secured screen rights to an unwritten book by Obergefell and journalist Debbie Cenziper. Producers Wyck Godfery and Marty Bowen have signed on tfor he project, which will fall under the Fox 2000 division. Obergefell married his longtime partner John Arthur in 2013 in Maryland, three months before Arthur died. Ohio refused to list Obergefell as his spouse on the death certificate, which led to the lawsuit.
