Former President George W. Bush charged a Texas-based veterans’ group $100,000 to speak at a fundraiser in 2012, ABC News discovered. The group, Helping a Hero, also flew him in to Houston on a $20,000 private jet, and paid his wife $50,000 to speak the prior year. The group primarily helps Afghanistan and Iraq veterans who have lost limbs get accessible homes, but thanked Bush for more than halving his regular speaking fee. Not all board members were on the same page. “For him to be paid to raise money for veterans that were wounded in combat under his orders, I don’t think that’s right,” said former board member Eddie Wright. “You sent me to war. I was doing what you told me to do, gladly for you and our country and I have no regrets.”
