A slew of Mexican officials have been fired over the prison break of Mexican cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, including the director of the prison from which he escaped via a mile-long tunnel. Interior Minister Miguel Angel Osorio announced the firings of Valentín Cárdenas Lerma and others late Monday, while dodging calls for his own resignation. “[Chapo] must have counted on staff or officials of the Altiplano prison,” Osorio said. “If confirmed, this would constitute corruption, disloyalty, and treason against the Mexicans, the institution, and the federal forces who risked their lives to capture him.”
