President Obama announced a pilot program Wednesday that will bring high-speed Internet to low-income families in public housing. ConnectHome is expected to reach 275,000 households in 27 cities across America. “The Internet is not a luxury, it’s a necessity,” Obama told an audience of Choctaw Nation members in Oklahoma, also noting that the people who “could benefit the most from the latest technology are the least likely to have it.” The Obama administration has also pledged to bring high-speed Internet to 99 percent of U.S. schools by 2017.
