Pioneer broadcast-television jouranlist Marlene Sanders died of cancer Tuesday, according to her son. She was 84. Sanders’ son Jeffrey Toobin, a CNN legal analyst and New Yorker staff writer, announced her death on his Facebook page. In 1964, the three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist became the first woman to anchor a prime-time network newscast, with ABC News. She was also the first network TV female journalist to report from Vietnam and the first female vice president of a news division (in 1976). She moved to CBS News in 1978 as a documentary correspondent and producer, where she remained until 1987.
