James Holmes was sentenced to serve life in prison plus an additional 3,318 years on Wednesday, which is the maximum allowed by the law. Judge Carlos A. Samour Jr. said "get the defendant out of my courtoom, please," prompting big applause in the room. Holmes will serve 12 life sentences and the rest of the years come from a combined 70 convictions of attempted murder and six years for having an explosive.
