The National Football League said it plans to appeal the decision of a U.S. District Court judge to strike down Tom Brady’s four-game suspension over the Deflategate scandal. Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Brady in May because of “substantial and credible evidence” that the New England Patriots quarterback knew team employees were deflating footballs to give him an advantage over the Indianapolis Colts in last season’s AFC Championship Game. Judge Richard Berman said Goodell went too far in punishing Brady, citing a lack of proof against Brady. Berman also questioned how the commissioner decided on a four-game suspension instead of some other sanction, (i.e. it was arbitrary). Berman also said the NFL refused to let an executive vice president be a witness, even though he worked on the Deflategate investigation.
