An American film pilot and a Colombian national were killed after the small plane they were riding in, which was assigned to the set of a Tom Cruise-starring film, crashed in the Colombian Andes. Alan Purwin and Carol Berl both died while U.S. pilot Jimmy Lee Garland was seriously injured. The plane reportedly encountered bad weather Friday afternoon on its way from Santa Fe Antioquia to Medellin. Cruise, who was not on the plane, is in Medellin filming Mena, a biopic about U.S. pilot Barry Seal, a drug runner who was recruited by the CIA to capture Pablo Escobar.
