Retired Gen. David Petraeus apologized for his extramarital affair, while testifying in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “Four years ago, I made a serious mistake—one that brought discredit on me and pain to those closest to me,” Petreaus said. “It was a violation of the trust placed in me and a breach of the values to which I had been committed throughout my life.” Petraeus stepped down as director of the CIA in late 2012 after it was revealed he had an affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell. Petraeus pleaded guilty to giving Broadwell classified documents and did not serve time in prison.
