The Department of Labor reported Friday that the U.S. added 142,000 jobs in the month of September while the official unemployment rate remained flat at 5.1 percent. Figures were also revised to show only 136,000 jobs were added in August, marking the smallest two-month gain in employment in more than a year. The jobs report comes just two weeks after the Federal Reserve determined the economy was still too fragile to raise interest rates.
