U.S.: We’ve Invited Iran to Talk Syria

U.S. officials announced Tuesday that Iran has been invited to participate for the first time in international talks about Syria’s future. Russia extended the official invitation to the conference set for next week, but the move comes as a surprise as U.S.-Iran relations have been fraught with tension, particularly as Tehran has sent forces to assist Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime against rebels. Iran has yet to respond to the invitation.
