Eric Gonzalez, a former Los Angeles County Sheriff's sergeant, was sentenced to eight years in prison on Monday for encouraging deputies to beat a handcuffed visitor to the jail. The victim, Gabriel Carrillo, was cuffed after he and his girlfriend were found to be carrying cell phones during their visit to Carrillo's brother. Gonzalez supervised several deputies who beat Carrillo, and then helped orchestrate a cover-up. After his prison sentence, Gonzalez will also have to spend three years under supervised release. Two other deputies were found guilty of the beating in June.
