A French official said on Friday the country will impose border controls ahead of the UN climate change conference in December in Paris. France's Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said on BFM television that authorities will tighten security at the borders, which are normally open to Europe's Schengen zone, beginning around Nov. 30 through Dec. 11. Border security will be on high alert for violent protesters as well as possible terror attacks during this period of time. Activist groups said they were told heightened security would begin Nov. 13. Organizers expect at least 40,000 people for the climate change conference, which is aimed at reducing emissions that cause global warming.
