In his first open-air Mass in Africa, Pope Francis urged Kenyans to focus on traditional family values and welcome children as a blessing. Speaking to crowds in the rain at the University of Nairobi, Francis spoke about abortion, looking out for the poor and called on the youth to reject discrimination. “May you always be concerned for the needs of the poor, and reject everything that leads to prejudice and discrimination, for these things, we know, are not of God,” he said. The pope will make 19 speeches during his five-day visit to Kenya, Uganda, and the Central African Republic in his first visit as pontiff to the African continent.
