The controversial manager of the company that purchased The Las Vegas Review-Journal last month was removed from his post, the newspaper reported Monday night. Michael E. Schroeder left his role as the new manager of the Review-Journal and the News + Media Capital Group, the company through which billionaire Sheldon Adelson bought the Review-Journal for $140 million. Schroeder came under scrutiny as editor of a suburban Connecticut newspaper, where he was suspected of writing a hit piece with fabricated quotes, under a false byline, against a Nevada judge who ruled against Adelson. The news came hours after the Review-Journal staff met with David Butler, executive editor of The Providence Journal, to discuss how to cover Adelson and his corporate interests.
