A United Nations aid convoy on Monday was expected to leave for Syria's starvation-stricken town of Madaya, which is under government siege near the Lebanon border. A convoy was expected to arrive in Maday on Sunday, but was delayed by last minute issues. Around 40,000 people live in Madaya and have been under heavy fire from forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since the summer. Medical chairty Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) have described the town as "quite horrific", with some residents said to b e eating pets and grass to survive. Up to 4.5 million people live in areas of Syria that are difficult to reach, including almost 400,000 who reside in 15 besieged locations and do not have access to aid.
