Tensions continued to escalate Wednesday when South Korea troops fired warning shots after an unknown object was spotted flying close to the border with North Korea. Local media reported the object was a drone and the device reportedly turned around after the shots were fired, the South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. The incident was the first time shots have been fired in the Korean Peninsula standoff since the North claimed last week that it had tested a hydrogen bomb. Yonhap news agency reported South Korean soldiers fired 20 rounds from machine guns after a drone was identified, but military officials did not immediately confirm the report.
