An investigation into hoverboard explosions led the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue an advisory that those buying the gadgets should use helmets and even fire extinguishers alongside the popular technology. The probe was launched after reports lithium-ion battery fires and a lack of safety features. Commission Chairman Elliot Kaye said children and adults alike should pair the self-balancing boards with elbow and knee pads, wrist guards, and helmets. Kaye added users should “have a working fire extinguisher nearby while charging or using these boards.”
