The Texas Supreme Court on Friday ruled in favor of high school cheerleaders who had said that they had the right to hold banners emblazoned with Bible verses at football games. The Kountze school district, which is about 100 miles northeast of Houston, at one point told the cheerleaders that they could not hold the signs. Though Kountze later allowed the cheerleaders to display the banners, the court felt it was necessary to rule on the case in order to protect religious expression. The signs featured lines such as, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.”
