Thousands of Italians on Saturday gathered in the Circus Maximus in Rome to protest plans to legalize same-sex civil unions. "Italy is one of the few western countries that is still resisting this deviation," said Massimo Gandolfini, the organizer of the "Family Day" protest. In addition to legalizing same-sex civil unions, Premier Matteo Renzi's coalition government also plans to allow gay men and women to adopt the biological children of their partners.
