Hong Kong police fired warning shots Tuesday after street demonstrations turned violent when authorities attempted to clear illegal vendors who were set up for the Lunar New Year holiday. As many as 48 police officers were injured after protesters set fires to garbage cans, knocked down street signs, and threw bricks at police, a police spokeswoman said. Police fired two warning shots into the air and used pepper spray and batons to disperse the crowd. Officers arrested 24 people in the unrest, which garnered a social-media following under #FishballRevolution. The riots mark the worst street clashes since the pro-democracy protests in 2014.
