Daimler AG said it was recalling 840,000 vehicles in the United States on Tuesday over the defective Takata Corp. airbags, which can exploded with deadly force. The automaker said included in that number is 705,00 Mercedes-Benzes and about 136,000 Daimler vans. The recall is "precautionary," according to the company, and will cost nearly $400 million. The Takata defect, which can cause airbags to overinflate and explode, has been blamed for at least 10 U.S. deaths. The defect has forced the recall of more than 20 million vehicles in the U.S. alone.
