Surgeons at the Cleveland Clinic have performed the first uterus transplant in the U.S., giving women without wombs a better chance at getting pregnant. The hospital said a 26-year-old woman underwent the nine-hour surgery and received a uterus from a deceased donor. The Cleveland Clinic announced last year it would attempt 10 such transplants in a clinical trial. The U.S. is not the first country to perform womb transplants: Sweden was the first country to report a successful post-transplant birth in 2014.
