Sports Authority filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Wednesday and may close down entirely in the next few weeks unless a buyer steps in. About 140 of the chain’s stores and distribution centers in Denver and Chicago will close in the next few months as part of a deal to receive bankruptcy financing. Chief Executive Michael E. Foss said the company will use the Chapter 11 process to “streamline and strengthen our business.”
