The federal judge investigating corruption charges in Brazil released phone recordings which allegedly show President Dilma Rousseff making reference to appointing former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as her chief of staff. This led investigators to think she was trying to shield Lula from a corruption probe as he was sought for money laundering and making false declarations. Because Lula is now a cabinet member, only the Supreme Court can continue the probe.
