A hospital in New Jersey, St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, has become the first in the country that is eliminating the use of opioid painkillers to manage any patients' pain. The ones most often used were oxycodone, vicodin and Percocet. “Our job here together is to look at the whole equation and understand how we can stop people from going from a prescription, to an addiction,” Dr. Mark Rosenberg, the Emergency Department chair said.
