Former Massey Energy coal executive Don Blankenship, the man convicted of conspiracy to violate mine safety standards related to a fatal mine explosion, was sentenced Wednesday to one year in prison. The explosion, which occurred in a West Virginia mine in 2010, killed 29 men. Blankenship will also have to pay out $250,000 in fines. He was acquitted in December of felony charges that might have led to sentences as long as 30 years.
