The Syrian regime has freed American freelance photographer Kevin Patrick Dawes, 33, who was detained after traveling to the tumultous country in 2012. U.S. officials confirmed to The Washington Post on Friday that after several months of negotiations, the Assad government released the San Diego native under unknown conditions. Former U.S. Marine and journalist Austin Tice, however, is still believed to be in Syrian custody since his disappearance in 2012.
