A Taiwan-born U.S. Navy officer has been accused of passing secrets to China, U.S. officials said Sunday. Lt. Cmdr. Edward Lin is facing charges of multiple counts of espionage, communicating defense information, and making false official statements as well as adultery and patronizing prostitutes, a U.S. official told The Washington Post. The Navy, which has not identified Lin by name, examined the charges in a preliminary military justice hearing Friday. The service said the officer is assigned to the headquarters for the Patrol and Reconnaissance Group, which manages maritime patrol aircraft. Lin’s name was first reported by USNI News on Sunday. Lin became a naturalized citizen in Honolulu in 2008, the Post reports.
