In a Monday statement, Cleveland Police Patrolman's Association president Steve Loomis said that the $6 million awarded to Tamir Rice's family in a settlement should go towards educating children about the use of lookalike guns. "Something positive must come from this tragic loss. That would be educating youth of the dangers of possessing a real or replica firearm," Loomis said hours after the city agreed upon the settlement with Rice's family. Officers involved in the shooting death of 12-year-old Rice contended that the child's fake gun was easily mistaken for a real weapon at the time.
