U.S. health officials reported the country's first death from the Zika virus on Friday. The patient, one of 683 confirmed Zika cases in Puerto Rico, developed severe thrombocytopenia, a blood-clotting disorder as a result of the Zika virus, the CDC reports. Most adults who contract the disease are not hospitalized.
