At least 35 districts in 14 states are reportedly discouraging hundreds of minors from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras from enrolling in U.S. schools. Advocates have said the students are being pressured to attend “separate but unequal” programs as an alternative, an investigation by the Associated Press found. The federal government has allotted very little money to monitor if children are actually able to attend U.S. schools after they arrive, despite the fact that public schools are still a guaranteed service extended to migrants.
