Google’s Paris office was raided by police Tuesday in an investigation into "aggravated tax fraud and organized money laundering," according to a reports. France is allegedly looking to claim $1.79 billion in back taxes from the company. French authorities claim that Google has used evasive techniques to avoid paying up. The investigation, which began in June 2015, is based on a complaint from fiscal authorities in the country. The prosecutor's office said the investigation intends to discover whether Google Ireland Ltd. is "permanently established in France and if, by not declaring some of its activity on French soil, it has failed to meet its fiscal obligations, in particular with regard to corporation tax and value added tax."
