Pope Francis on Saturday approved new legal procedures to remove bishops who are found to be negligent towards abuse cases within their parish. Survivors of sexual abuse at the hands of priests have long accused the Vatican of simply shifting around rapists to different locations rather than fire them or report them to authorities. With a new decree, the Pope set about codifying the language around punishing bishops who fail to “undertake a particular diligence in protecting those who are the weakest among their flock.”
