A police canine has died in Cherokee County after being left in a hot police vehicle for several hours. The 4-year-old Belgian Malinois named Inca, in the care of an officer from the School District Police Department, had been left to sit in the back of the patrol car for nearly three hours when the officer remembered she was there. He found her dead. She was part of a canine unit used to check lockers, classrooms, and vehicles at local schools. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. The name of the officer in charge of Inca has not been released, but all members of the K9 unit are undergoing canine training.
