America’s oldest park ranger, Betty Reid Soskin, was attacked and robbed late Thursday in her Bay Area home. Soskin, 94, was asleep at the time of the home invasion, according to local police. The intruder dragged her from her bedroom before beating her and later stealing many of her possessions—including a presidential coin presented to her by President Barack Obama. Soskin, who began working for the National Park Service in her eighties, gained fame for the stories she shares with visitors about segregation during World War II. The White House said on Thursday that Obama would give Soskin a new presidential coin to replace the stolen one.
