Australia's Cate Campbell broke the women's 100 meters freestyle world record on Saturday, beating her own personal best ahead of the Rio Olympics in August. At the Brisbane Grand Prix, 24-year-old Campbell finished in 52.06 seconds, surpassing the previous record time of 52.07 seconds held by German swimmer Britta Steffen. Campbell is now the first Australian swimmer to claim an individual world record since the 2008-09 supersuit period, during which 300 global records were set thanks to swimwear that has since been banned.
