The defending world-champion Kansas City Royals stole the show during Tuesday night’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game in San Diego, with two of their all-stars hitting home runs in the second inning. Eric Hosmer hit a solo shot in the first All-Star at-bat of his career, and then two batters later, his teammate, catcher Salvador Perez, hit a two-run bomb to left field. The following inning, Hosmer drove in yet another run. Those four runs were enough for a 4-2 victory, handing the AL its fourth consecutive Midsummer Classic win and giving it home-field advantage for the World Series this fall. Hosmer was handed the MVP trophy for his performance.
