Three Hong Kong students who led the city’s pro-democracy protests in 2014 were convicted Thursday on charges relating to their roles in the demonstrations. Joshua Wong and Alex Chow were found guilty of unlawful assembly, while the third student, Nathan Law, was found guilty of inciting demonstrators to scale a fence. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 15, and the three could face prison time. The Occupy protests lasted for 79 days and were seen as the biggest challenge to China’s Communist Party in decades. The convictions triggered fears that more such protests could erupt if the students get hit with prison terms.
