A Kansas boy who died Sunday in an accident on the world’s tallest water slide has been identified as the son of a lawmaker. The boy, identified by his family as 10-year-old Caleb Thomas Schwab, was killed while riding the Verrückt—the German word for “insane”—at the Schlitterbahn Water Park in Kansas City. The ride is considered the world’s tallest of its kind, offering a “jaw-dropping” 168-foot 7-inch slide to slide down in a three-person raft. The water park was shut down as investigators inspected the area. Olathe Rep. Scott Schwab and his wife, Michele, released a statement asking for privacy after their loss, and noting that Caleb “brought abundant joy to our family and all those he came in contact with.”
