Vanderbilt University will pay $1.2 million to remove the word "Confederate" in an inscription in one of its dorms. The dorm, called Confederate Memorial Hall has only been referred to as Memorial Hall for years. The university was blocked in court from changing the name because it was constructed with money from the Daughters of the Confederacy in 1933. Now Vanderbilt will pay the monetary value equivalent to $1.2 million to the Tennessee chapter allowing them to change the name.
