North Korea has test-fired another ballistic missile, U.S. and South Korean officials said. The missile, a KN-11 launched from a submarine, was fired toward Japan and traveled about 300 miles before landing in the Sea of Japan. The U.S. and South Korea will soon participate in annual military drills, which often provoke a response from Pyongyang. The launch is an indication that the Hermit Kingdom’s missile technology has progressed, in defiance of United Nations sanctions against the launches. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the newest provocation “poses a grave threat to Japan’s security, and is an unforgivable act that damages regional peace and stability markedly.”
